Elko County School District's Family and Community Engagement Center proudly presents "An Evening with Tanaya Winder," Wednesday, May 15, from 6- 7 PM at the Great Basin College Theatre. This event is open to the public, with free admission.

Tanaya Winder, author, singer/songwriter, poet, and motivational speaker, will grace the stage with a captivating blend of storytelling, singing, and spoken word. Through her powerful performance, she will share her empowering journey, inviting audiences to explore the various expressions of love and the transformative power of embracing one's true self.

From an intertribal lineage of Southern Ute, Pyramid Lake Paiute, Diné, and Duckwater Shoshone Nations, Winder's message resonates deeply as she brings to light themes of youth and women empowerment, healing trauma through art, mental wellness advocacy, and the importance of embracing one's cultural identity. She received a BA in English from Stanford University and an MFA in creative writing from the University of New Mexico.

Winder won the prestigious 2010 A Room Of Her Own Foundation’s Orlando prize in poetry. Her work has graced the pages of esteemed publications such as POETRY, Rumpus, and World Literature Review, and her poems have been brought to life on stage by the Poetic Theater Productions Presents Company in NYC.

As a featured TEDxABQ speaker, Winder's influential talk on "Igniting Healing" has sparked conversations worldwide. With a decade of experience as the Director of the University of Colorado Boulder’s Upward Bound program, she has tirelessly dedicated herself to serving Indigenous youth, impacting countless lives along the way.

Her published poetry collections, including "Words Like Love," "Why Storms are Named After People," and "Bullets Remain Nameless," and "Words To Love By," have further solidified her place as a literary force to be reckoned with.

This special evening promises to be an unforgettable experience, as Winder shares her music, poetry, and empowerment workshops with the Elko community. Don't miss this opportunity to be inspired and uplifted by one of today's most influential voices.
