Statement from the Elko County School District

Dear Parents and Guardians and the Elko County Community,
Two of our middle schools have recently been affected by threats of violence within the past week. We want to thank the students, families, and staff at those schools for their patience, cooperation, and support during these stressful situations.
We understand that situations involving school safety threats are alarming and emotional for students, families, staff, and our broader community. Our priority will always be the safety and well-being of those in our schools.
When incidents like these occur, our practice is to communicate directly with parents and staff as information is confirmed and shared with us by the incident command. During active situations, schools and first responders follow established emergency operations procedures and response protocols closely. These are not public-facing plans for the safety of our students, staff, and responders.
Following these events, agencies and district personnel participate in debriefings to review the response and identify areas for continued improvement. Schools also bring in additional supports on the following school day and provide students with unified messaging focused on safety, emotional support, and avoiding the spread of rumors or misinformation.
The incidents themselves remain under active investigation by law enforcement agencies. Any information related to potential suspects or criminal findings will come from the agencies leading those investigations. The district will continue to communicate directly with families about information that affects school safety or operations.
We are grateful for the swift and professional response from our law enforcement and emergency response partners, and we appreciate the continued trust and partnership of our families and community. Working together to protect students and staff remains our highest priority.
