Career Technical Education (CTE) programs in Elko County School District give students hands-on opportunities to explore careers while building real-world skills. Today, we’re highlighting the Multimedia CTE class at West Wendover High School, taught by Cris-Anne Dy.
This past week, students stepped into the role of content creators by producing their own 10-minute podcasts on topics they were excited about. Using Adobe Creative Suite, students learned how to record high-quality audio, design a logo for their podcast channel, and write a script to guide their conversations.

Podcast topics reflected both creativity and local connection, including winter sports coverage at WWHS, a brother-and-sister duo exploring family dynamics, and discussions on paranormal activity—debating myths and legends tied to the Bonneville Salt Flats and the Great Salt Lake.
In addition to podcasting, multimedia students also complete lessons in graphic arts, designing materials such as t-shirts, mugs, signage, earrings, and more. Their work was recently featured in a winter art exhibit at the Peppermill Concert Hall, alongside paintings, sculptures, and other student artwork, including the class’s holiday-themed graphic design projects.

“As a CTE teacher in the Elko County School District, I see firsthand how our classes prepare students for the real world through hands-on projects, industry-relevant skills, and career-focused learning. Our students graduate with confidence, practical knowledge, and clear pathways to higher education, certifications, or immediate entry into the workforce.”
