Elko County School District is proud to announce that Board of Trustees Member Jeff Durham, who represents District 6, has been elected Vice President of the Nevada Association of School Boards (NASB) during the NASB Annual Conference held in Reno, NV earlier this month.
Durham’s new position will help shine a light on Elko County’s needs and challenges, especially when it comes to decisions affecting funding, policies, and support for rural schools across Nevada.
Durham first joined the ECSD Board of Trustees in the fall of 2021 through an appointment. He later ran for the seat in 2022 and was elected. He also represented ECSD on the Nevada Association of School Boards in recent years and was honored as NASB’s Director of the Year.
“This is a big opportunity not just for Trustee Durham, but for our entire school community,” said Superintendent CJ Anderson. “His leadership at the state level will help ensure rural voices like ours are heard loud and clear.”
The Nevada Association of School Boards supports school board members through training, advocacy and statewide collaboration. Durham’s new role will enable Elko County to guide conversations on key education issues, especially those affecting rural and underfunded districts.
“I’m honored to have been elected Vice President of NASB, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly,” said Durham. “This role means a great deal to me because it reflects the trust of colleagues from every corner of the state.”
According to Durham, one of his primary goals is to raise awareness around the budget challenges facing school districts across the state.
“I look forward to working closely with the state legislature and the Governor’s Office to help advance and strengthen public education in Nevada.”
As Durham steps into this leadership position, the Elko County School District looks forward to continued collaboration with NASB and increased advocacy for local students, educators and families.
