Elko County School District (ECSD) is honored to announce the STARS (Staff and Teachers Achieving Results with Students) award recipients for November and December 2024. These remarkable individuals demonstrate exceptional dedication and positively impact the lives of students and the community.
November 2024 STARS Recipients:
• Emily Heller, Special Education Teacher, Liberty Peak Elementary School
Nominated by Maranna Berry, Heller was praised as “the most hardworking and dedicated teacher,” giving “150% every single day.” Another nomination described her as having “a heart of gold,” ensuring that her students' needs are always a top priority.
• Brittney Reasbeck, Bus Driver, Spring Creek
Reasbeck’s commitment to student safety and well-being shines daily. An anonymous nominator highlighted her “friendly demeanor and reliability,” making her a standout in the Transportation Department.
• Kage Walker, Science Teacher, Spring Creek Middle School
Student Noa Rowland said Walker is “kind and caring to students” and “helps students when they most need it.” His positive and approachable manner makes him a favorite among students.
December 2024 STARS Recipients:
• Jeannette Dean, English Language Development, Mountain View Elementary School
Dean's work in empowering English learners is transformative. A colleague emphasized her patience and creativity, calling her “an essential support for students navigating new challenges.”
• Kristen Morris, Special Education, Elko High School
Parent Susie Ward shared her heartfelt appreciation: "Mrs. Morris has a remarkable ability to connect with her students and truly understands their strengths and needs.” She added that Morris’ “dedication and professionalism make her a trusted partner for parents.”
• Monica Stevenson, First Grade Teacher, Southside Elementary School
Stevenson’s dedication to students inspires her colleagues. Brian Jacobson described her as “a champion for all students” who tirelessly leads after-school tutoring programs and creates a nurturing classroom environment. Another anonymous nominator added, “Her positivity is contagious; you can hear her laugh down the hall, bringing joy to everyone she meets.”
