LOVELOCK — Elko County was well represented and represented well at the Division 2A North regional wrestling tournament.
On Feb. 7, a total of 21 Elko County wrestlers from four teams earned qualifications to the Division 2A Nevada State Wrestling Championships.
In the team standings, West Wendover ranked third with 144 points — trailing only second-place Battle Mountain (187) and champion Pershing County (236.5) — and Wells followed in fourth with 137.5 points.
Owyhee rounded out the top 10 with 17 points, and Carlin took 11th with seven points.
Altogether, the Wolverines booked 10 state qualifiers — including two reserve champions and four consolation champs — and the Leopards crowned a regional champion, three runners-up, three consolation champs and nine state qualifiers.
The Braves and the Railroaders both sent one grappler to the state tournament.
Johnny Glasock
For Wells, Johnny Glascock took home the 132-pound title and finished 3-0 with two pins and a win by major decision.
In the championship match, he shut out Pershing County’s Jaxson Happy by major decision with the score at 11-0.
Second-Place Finishers
In total, five Elko County wrestlers served as the runners-up to regional titles — three for Wells and two from West Wendover.
Maximillion Dahl
For the Leopards, Maximillion Dahl ranked second at 144 pounds and went 1-1 with a pin.
In the title match, he was pinned in 1:56 by Pershing County’s Jeffrey Elerick.
Gage Uhlig
Wells’ Gage Uhlig grabbed second and the 165-pound class and closed with a 1-1 record.
For the final, he dropped a 13-2 loss by major decision to Pershing County’s Israel Knight.
Cade Campson
The Leopards gained a second-place finish in the 120-pound division from Cade Sampson, who also went 1-1.
He lost the championship by injury default at the 2:56 mark of the second period with the score at 9-2 against Pershing County’s James George.
Third-Place Finishers
Altogether, seven Elko County wrestlers overcame a loss but won their last match and won consolation championships — four for West Wendover and three by Wells.
For third and fourth, Salas pinned Wells’ Cameron Goolsby in 1:26.
Ayden Rodriguez
Wells’ Ayden Rodriguez finished third at 106 pounds and went 2-1 with two wins by fall.
In the consolation final, he pinned Coral Academy’s Jordan St. John in 1:54.
Jayden Kiser
For the Leopards, Jayden Kiser also ranked third in the 126-pound division and bounced back from an opening loss with consecutive victories and finished 2-1 with a pin and a win by technical fall.
For third and fourth, Kiser defeated Silver Stage’s Gavin Dickinson by fall in 2:13.
Brylee Henderson
Wells’ Brylee Henderson ranked third in the 113-pound division, despite losing his only match by tech fall to Battle Mountain’s Donovan Gilbert with the score at 19-4.
Fourth-Place Finishers
The fourth and final berths to state in their respective weight classes were nailed down by eight Elko County athletes: four from West Wendover, two from Wells and one apiece for Owyhee and Carlin.
Marcus Uhart
For the Leopards, Marcus Uhart took fourth and went 2-2 with two pins at 175 pounds.
He punched his ticket to state with a 2:31 pin of Battle Mountain’s William Ornelas before losing by fall in 1:50 to Pershing County’s Cade Liesback in the consolation final.
Camden Goolsby
Wells’ Cameron Goolsby earned the fourth and final position to state in the 157-pound division and finished 1-2 with a pin.
He punched his state ticket with a 2:10 pin of Owyhee’s Kiowa Smartt (0-3) — who placed sixth — before losing the consolation title match by fall in 1:26 to Salas.
