CARSON CITY — At the 1A state track meet, just one program finished ahead of the Wells girls.

As a team, the Lady Leopards tallied 91 points — trailing only the 125 by state champion Whittell — and fended off the third-place 88 from Indian Springs by three points.

Carlin followed in fourth place with 60 points, and Jackpot’s girls rounded out the local field with 20 points for 13th.

Individually, Carlin junior Kylie Kennedy turned in the best performance — winning the shot put by a wide margin with a personal-record throw of 36-feet-5-1/4-inches.

Wells junior Lillian Harney ranked second with a PR of her own at a distance of 32-feet-8-3/4-inches.

Harney also finished second in the discus — sailing the disc 86-feet-8-inches — and Carlin senior Sofia Gomez placed fourth with a mark at 81-feet-7-inches.

In the 3200 meters — featuring a field of four Elko County runners — Wells senior Kira Boner crossed second with a personal-best two-mile jaunt of 15:30.02.

Carlin senior Benny Floris took third with a PR of 16:14.19, Jackpot sophomore Jocelyn Cervantes followed in fourth with a 16:46.71 and Carlin freshman Emily Wall finished sixth with a time of 17:46.51.

For the Lady Railroaders, sophomore Jaden Loftin was third in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 19.22 seconds — Wells freshman Marli Dahl following in 19.41 seconds for a PR and fourth place.

Wells senior Carolina Jonhson ranked fourth in the pole vault with a personal-record height of 7-feet-6-inches — pacing a field of four Lady Leopards in the event — junior Madison Dahl placed sixth with a PR of her own at 6-feet and senior Hannah Prescott and freshman Teagan Remington tied for seventh on matching vaults of 5-feet-6-inches.

In the 1600 meters, Boner notched another PR — finishing fifth in the one-mile run with a time of 7:07.40 — and Floris wound up seventh and did not start in the event.

Johnson added a fifth-place leap in the triple jump and spanned 30-feet, and junior teammate Callie Brodsho ranked eighth with a distance of 26-feet-11-inches.

Senior Samantha Iveson took fifth in the 400 meters with a personal-record time of 1:06.32, and she finished sixth in the 200 meters in 29.77 seconds.

Wells also had multiple qualifications in the high jump; junior Gizelle Flores taking sixth with a height of 3-feet-10-inches and Prescott ranking seventh at 3-feet-8-inches.

For the Lady Jaguars, freshman Banelly Vazquez-Rosas ran eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 3:10.26.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Marli Dahl set another PR and placed seventh in 56.46 seconds.

Relays

The Lady Leopards captured the state title in the 4x200-meter relay as junior Destin Martin, Johnson, Brodsho and Iveson crossed in 2:00.85.

Carlin’s girls — junior Maricris Vicente, junior Bretta Melendez, Kennedy and Loftin — placed third with a time of 2:13.50.

The local programs went two-three-four in the 4x800 relay.

For Carlin, Wall, Floris, sophomore Haylee Warren and Loftin crossed second in 12:36.19.

Wells — Boner, senior Lucy Beardall, Flores and Remington — followed in third with a time of 13:29.62.

The Lady Jaguars — junior Aisha Rayas-Giron, Cervantes, Vazquez-Rosas and freshman Karina Lucero — placed fourth in 13:41.24.

In the 4x100, the Lady Railroaders — Vicente, Melendez, Kennedy and Loftin — crossed second in 58.06 seconds.

Wells — Madison Dahl, Brodsho, Remington and Iveson — followed in third with a time of 58.34 seconds, and Jackpot’s squad of Vazquez-Rosas, Cervantes, freshman Isabell Gamez and Lucero placed fifth in 1:04.46.

For the 4x400, Carlin placed second — sophomore Emily McNamara, Floris, Vicente and Warren crossing in 5:15.38.

In fourth, the Lady Leopards — Flores, Prescott, Dahl and Remington — took fourth in 5:20.97.

Jackpot — Rayas-Giron, Cervantes, Gamez and Vazquez-Rosas — finished sixth with a time of 5:54.15.

Boys Results

On the boys side, Jackpot led the way for the local squads — ranking ninth in the team standings with 30 points.

Wells placed 12th with 23 points, Carlin finished 15th with 18 points and Owyhee’s boys tallied three points — all coming on a sixth-place effort in the 4x100 relay.

Individually, the best finish was a second-place run in the 800 meters by Jackpot junior Jorge Avila Fragoza with a time of 2:06.70.

Wells freshman Mason Noorda followed in third with a PR of 2:12.61.

In the 1600 meters, Avila Fragoza ranked third — running a one-mile best of 4:54.16.

Noorda also took third in the 400 meters with a personal-record lap of 54.16 seconds.

For the Jaguars, junior Israel Garcia ran third in the 3200 meters — setting a personal record with a two-mile time of 11:22.76 — and Wells freshman Isaac Gale ran sixth with a PR of 11:44.01.

In the discus, Carlin senior Josef Hartford threw 99-feet-2-inches for sixth place.

The Railroaders also notched a pair of seventh-place finishes; senior Jordan Vicente running 12.26 second in the 100 meters and junior Carter Pooley tossing 33-feet-6-1/4-inches in the shot put.

Relays

In the 4x800, the Jaguars — sophomore Angel Martinez, junior Alfredo Aguilar, Garcia and Avila Fragoza — tallied the best finish of local relay teams with a second-place time of 9:20.07.

Wells — Gale, freshman Henry Morris, sophomore Cameron Livingstone and Noorda — crossed sixth in 9:38.74.

Carlin — sophomore Winston Ludwig, Pooley, sophomore Leo Krantz and Vicente — took third place in the 4x100 with a time of 49.03 seconds.

Owyhee — consisting of junior Noah Johnson, sophomore Sitka Quinelle, senior Bisaapi Melendez and senior Santino Thomas — placed sixth and finished in 52.25 seconds.

In the 4x400, the Leopards — Gale, Livingstone, senior Keene Walsh and Noorda — ranked fourth with a time of 3:56.41.

The Jags — Martinez, junior Julian Cervantes, Garcia and Avila Fragoza — crossed seventh in 4:08.09.

The Railroaders — Ludwig, Pooley, Krantz and Vicente — placed fourth in the 4x200 relay with a collective time of 1:42.66.
