Three West Wendover High School Students Receive Scholastic Art Award

This year, 567 student-artists from Northern Nevada in grades 7-12 have been recognized for their creativity and artistry in the annual Scholastic Art Awards. Among the recipients are three students from West Wendover, representing Elko County.

Sydney Howry, Grade 9 - Silver Key Award in Mixed Media

Perla Lujan, Grade 11 - Honorable Mention Award in Painting

Yarizel Zamora, Grade 12 - Honorable Mention Award in Drawing and Illustration

These students have demonstrated their dedication to the arts, showcasing creativity and skill in their respective categories. Their achievements are a testament to their artistic abilities and reflect the exceptional guidance provided by their teacher, Catherine Paje.

Since 1999, the Nevada Museum of Art has overseen the Northern Nevada visual component of the Scholastic Art Awards.

The Scholastic Art Awards provide young artists with the opportunity to gain recognition for outstanding work and compete nationally. The national competition results will be announced in June 2024, and we eagerly await the outcome as these talented students take their art to the next level.

We commend these young artists for their dedication, creativity, and passion for the arts. Their achievements inspire us all and serve as a reminder of the immense talent present in our region.
