With guidance from the Nevada Department of Education and  the State Board of Education, we have created a district committee to oversee the reopening of schools. This committee comprises local health officials, emergency management personnel, school administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, and central office team members. Its purpose is to develop a framework for which the Elko County School District can create and implement safe and efficient guidelines for returning to school.

This committee is looking at multiple topics concerning the logistics, health, and academic issues we will have to overcome within our multiple communities to provide the best and safest learning environment possible for our students. At this time, we have more questions than answers. But we are working through these obstacles by coordinating efforts with both state and local experts to provide what we all want for the students of the Elko County School District, a return to normalcy. A return to all that our school years are supposed to be—days filled with learning, friendship, and building the skills that will serve our students for their lifetimes.

We will provide updates of the reopening committee’s progress so all of our communities can properly prepare for the upcoming school year. Please check back for updates.

PLEASE NOTE: Positive case reporting by the Elko County School District (ECSD) does not mean that individuals contracted COVID-19 in an ECSD school or building, at an ECSD sponsored activity, or while using ECSD transportation.

ECSD is monitoring the health of students and staff and publicly sharing information regarding active COVID-19 cases present in our district. Proactive reporting is part of our commitment to the community.

If it is determined that exposure to a student or employee who has tested positive meets the requirements for precautionary quarantine, families and staff will be immediately advised. Precautionary quarantine does not mean that the quarantined individuals are or will become sick. Precautionary quarantine is an ECSD practice intended to ensure the safety of people who have been in close contact with an active case of COVID-19.

The listing of multiple active cases does not constitute an outbreak. An “outbreak” is defined as two or more laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases among students or staff, with onsets within a 14-day period, who are epidemiologically linked, do not share a household, and were not identified as close contacts of each other in another setting during standard care investigation or contact tracing.
